Feeding Finn

Feeding Finn has been far easier than I anticipated it would be and I'm so thankful. Matt has snapped a few pictures of me and my little nursling, but I wanted to do something a little more deliberate to remember this season of our lives. Enter Karissa, friend and birth photographer extraordinaire. She took photos when both of the boys were born and when Ezra was nursing, too. I knew she would be willing to do it again, even at six months pregnant with her toddler in tow, and especially if I bribed her with tacos. Pregnant ladies love tacos. Heck, who doesn't love tacos? Anyway, we spent about an hour in Providence to get these shots. Matt kept Ezra and Zekiah occupied and Finn basically refused to nurse because he wanted to play with the boys and/or smile at Karissa and random passersby. Still, I love these pictures and am so glad I'll always have them to help me remember this time. Thanks so much, Karissa! I promise we'll get tacos if the Taqueria is ever actually open.

That face! I just can't. This sweet boy has my heart.

lazy days | why I won't be posting much this week

With all the planning I've been doing for our upcoming trip to Paris I'm running short on time for posting lately, so I owe you all an apology! Posting will be light this week, and I actually intend to take the whole month of August off so I can finish preparing and relax a little before we leave. I have a bunch of ideas up my sleeve for when we return and I'm sure I'll have loads of Paris photos to share, too, but for now here's my new favorite photo -
Completely unrelated to blogging or Paris, but I love it. Me and Ezra with our new haircuts. It's from our family photo shoot from the weekend... to see more images (and to tide you over until I have something more substantial up!) check out Steph's blog post about the shoot.

Hope your week is off to a good start!

take forty-seven // my new profile photo

Everyone always assumes that because my husband is a photographer that I have great photos of myself. Not so. More often than not, I'm trying to jump out of the frame as Matt captures images of Ezra, usually because I don't like my hair or my outfit or some other silly reason. When Matt wants to try out new techniques or styles of shooting he expects me to be his guinea pig but I am the least willing subject he can find. However, recently Matt wanted to experiment with some lighting in our basement and I've been wanting a new photo for the blog since I removed the one I had in my profile months ago. Although Matt took it, he said he didn't like it, plus my hair is longer now (and not as smooth for some strange reason). So I agreed to sit for him for a while as long as I got some profile pictures out of it, but if you ask Matt I groveled. Anyway, here are some of the photos from our basement shoot, complete with outfit changes and outtakes.

here I am just warming up. I was making this face on purpose, I promise.

my instructions here were "look at the water heater"

goofing off while Matt adjusts the tripods

trying to get my point across

sneezing, and letting Matt know I have at least one more sneeze in me

I was ready to be done before Matt was

and the one I ended up with

Matt, sorry for giving you such a hard time! And thanks for all the time you spent post-processing the images, especially my infamous first selection. Read more on that on Matt's blog post about the shoot right here

I like blueflash // win yourself a photo shoot

If you're friends with me on facebook then you probably already know that Matt launched a facebook page for blueflash this week. I've been trying to spread the word because get this - he's giving away a photo shoot to one of the first 500 people to 'like' the page. Of course I would support Matt in anything he does since he's my husband, but I also really like his work. He may not believe me - I'm probably his harshest critic - but it's because I know he has so much to offer. You don't have to comment here if you'd rather head right to the blueflash facebook page, but if you throw your name in the hat I would love to know what you would use the shoot for. For more information, read Matt's post about the giveaway. Here are some of my favorite images...

Best of luck to all who 'like' blueflash! I can't wait to see what the shoot is like.

eleven months!

Eleven month photo shoot status: occurred approximately nine days late but successful! I'll take it. If we crop that first one I think it would be perfect for Ezra's RI license photo.
Ok, so the shoot was successful except that Ezra took his sticker off after the first snap of the shutter. I decided to be the bigger man and allow him to stick it on the gorilla (who was much more complacent), which he was very intent on doing.
Ez clearly didn't want anyone to feel left out so the aardvark had a turn with the sticker next.
Sticker-less and loving it!
Ezra taking a few tentative steps onto the pelt of a long dead baby polar bear. Just kidding - it's faux sheepskin from Ikea.
Ezra's to do list: demolish artfully arranged display of picture books in four seconds - check.
Ezra's first self portrait. I'm going to go set up his myspace account.

ten months!

So here we are back in time again, this time by about a month and a half. Ezra was uncooperative once again, which I guess is to be expected from a ten month old who doesn't exactly understand the concept of posing yet.
As much as I wanted to have 'professional' photos each month, I kind of like these funny face-blurry-too dark-or-too bright memories of Ezra, since that's what he and I were able to produce together...
... as I'm not anywhere near close to a professional photographer, although I would say Ezra is a professional baby, what with all the crawling, teething, and babbling he does.
My friend Kate gave me some tips for taking Ezra's one year photos to try to ensure a good result, so we'll see how that works in a couple of weeks.

nine months!

These photos are a dead giveaway that I've been slacking in the blog department (note the 9 sticker on Ezra's onesie).  He already looks so much bigger to me, as he should - he's a little over eleven months old as I write this.
take one: sans onesie
Ez & friends
complete fascination. and it wasn't even oscillating.
the view from above
and from the side
how I love those little fingers
and we're back to the fan
There are two more sessions of month photos that I need to post before we get to the big 0-1 in a few weeks, so please bear with me and the little guy in the white onesie. The sessions became increasingly unsuccessful (decreasingly successful?) with each passing month, but I hope to catch some good ones at the one year mark.
