twin bento boxes | quilts for Rosemary and Sylvia

I’ve had two cousins have sets of twins recently and I’ve learned that it’s so fun to make two quilts! These were extra fun because I was the only one who knew the babies’ gender (not even the mom and dad knew! They had a nurse call me!) so I had an exciting secret for months. I didn’t meet my self-imposed deadline of finishing by their birth so once the babies arrived I had my mom @dmmeenan help me with cutting and sewing so we could get the quilts done faster. These are mod bento box quilts (pattern by @filminthefridge) made with coordinating raspberry and coral toned fabrics from @beyondthebolt.ri. I hope Rosemary and Sylvia (aka Rosie and Sylvie) love them like I loved my baby quilt! We took the photos after brunch at @nicksonbroadway at the Wedding Cake House next door, and of course Rory had to jump in! I actually had Matt edit him out of the first shot 😏

tiny tiles VI | a quilt for Vera

A little sister quilt to match big brother's quilt. I made this one for Vera, the brand new daughter of my friends Liz and Dante from Orangetheory, after making one for their son Luca a couple years ago. I used Purl Soho's tiny tiles pattern again - it's such a good one! I've probably made this quilt more than any other (I just counted - it's the sixth!). I love how it looks so different depending on the colors used, and it sews up so quickly! This one has lots of pinks, and I accidentally made an extra row so I put it on the back along with a pink on pink polka dot. And then I bound it in pink polka dots too!

scrappy log cabin 2.0 | a quilt for Charlie

Made this little log cabin for Charlie using so many of my favorite fabrics - pink honey bears, polka dots, strawberries, ice cream, rifle paper co florals, stars, honeybees, blackberries, butterflies, cats, moths, and moon bears 💖 And here's the quilt I made for big sister Olivia a couple years ago!

Henfluenced | a quilt for Jaclyn

It’s hard to describe what it’s like when someone you love is diagnosed with cancer, although I know it’s an experience far too many people are intimately familiar with. It often feels like there’s not much you can do. Some people pray or send positive vibes, some people go grocery shopping or make meals, and some people drop off gifts for the kids to keep them busy or drive them to their activities. These are all things I’ve done in some capacity, but I always want to do more, especially when what I’d really like to do is eradicate cancer from the planet and especially from my cousin’s body. Since I can’t do that, what I often do instead is make a quilt. My cousin Jaclyn is someone I’ve looked up to since I was little. She’s always been artistic and fashionable and thoughtful and adventurous and I’ve always admired her. Learning that she was diagnosed with cancer two months ago at only 40 years old was devastating, and I started planning a quilt almost immediately, enlisting her mom, her sister, my mom, and two of our aunts to help. We worked quickly so the quilt would be ready when Jaclyn started treatment, and I hope that it’s been providing her with warmth and comfort throughout the process. We’re trusting that she’s already got this thing beat! She has five infusions down and thirteen to go so please keep her and her family in your thoughts! And make sure you do your self exams! 💛🐓🥰 [chicken block pattern by @hollygetsquilty, inspiration for making an entire chicken quilt by @quiltylove, fabric from @beyondthebolt.ri]

add it up | a quilt for Jacob Daniel

I think this is one of my favorite quilts ever, I love the simplicity and natural colors. As often happens to me, I intended to make a different quilt and made some errors that forced me to change course. I planned on making this quilt an X rather than a + but I cut the background wrong. Luckily, I don't think Jacob will mind! He's the third son of my brother's friends Jon and Anita - actually, no, they're my friends too! The back is delicious too - the softest polka dot fabric I've ever come across, some frogs, ikea number script, and apples! Here's the quilt I made for Zachary, Jon and Anita's first son, and Isaac, their second son. And here's to families with three boys!

twin stars | quilts for Austin + Jackson

Twin baby boys in my family = twin quilts 💙💙 My mom and I worked on these together for Austin and Jackson, my cousin’s new little ones. I planned a different set of quilts but then cut all the fabric wrong and had to pivot. Luckily it still worked and I like how they turned out! Also I have to thank Rory and his best bud Nico for being my quilt holders when we were at the library last week.

mini single girl | a quilt for Mackenzie

A little Single Girl Quilt (pattern by @dsquilts) using so many of my favorite fabrics (all by @annamariahorner) with cute monsters and rainbows on the back for Mackenzie 👾🌈💖 [and yes, I goofed and used two different whites but it’s less noticeable in person and I don’t think babies mind design flaws too much]

checkerboard | a quilt for Caleb

Our friends Jen and Chris were expecting their third baby and he needed a quilt just like his big brother and sister. Here are the quilts I made for Carter in 2018 and Aria in 2020. This quilt for Caleb is a little random but I like it a lot. It's a mix of blues, browns, and grays on a Carolyn Friedlander gray on white grid background. I can't decide if I like the banana print or the bear print the most. The back is more of the CF grid with some fun button down shirts in the middle. I kind of want to make a button down shirt out of that print!

trip around the world | a quilt for Noa

I had wanted to make a scrappy trip quilt for ages and when my friends Jeremy and Bria were waiting for their daughter to be born I knew it was the right time to make one. I love how it looks vintage and somehow fresh at the same time. The original pattern is by Bonnie Hunter. I used lots of my favorite fabrics like Heather Ross apples, Annie Brady cacti, Denyse Schmidt dots, Rifle Paper Co. florals, cotton + steel stars, and Lizzy House cats. The back is a Melody Miller print paired with tiny pink polka dots. I thought this quilt was going to be a lot less vibrant than it turned out. I like it, but it doesn’t look the way I imagined it would. It’s always a little disappointing when my ideas don’t come together in the way I intended. I’m focusing on all the cute details instead - the strawberries, frogs, apples, flowers, butterflies, cats, pineapples, stars, blackberries, rainbows, and cactuses because I love them all. Hopefully Noa likes them too! I don't remember what happened exactly but I think I was cutting it close on the backing and the binding didn't quite reach all the way around to cover the batting so I had to cut a small strip of strawberries to cover my mistake on the back. Whoops!

Wash Your Paws | For Walter

It's been so long since I've kept up with my blog here but I feel compelled to keep going. I like to see all the quilts I've given away because sometimes I miss them! This one is in New Hampshire with my cousin Amanda's baby Walter. I used this pattern and so many of my favorite fabrics by cotton + steel, Carolyn Friedlander, Annie Brady, Lizzy House, and others. For some reason I don't have a photo of the back which is a bummer. I'll have to text Amanda to see if she can get one for me! The night I had Matt take these photos we were in Providence on a date by the pedestrian bridge. We had the most delicious pizza from Hotline with fresh basil and corn and then we got Tizzy K's ice cream, I think I got fruity pebbles. Mmmm.
